Conference Room Backdrop Projection

The Search for Odysseus

Adventure Stage Chicago, 2002 & 2008

An example of scenic projection design.

back projected on a scrim that filled the entire aperture of the proscenium arch. Smoke machine and gobo lighting effects in front of the scrim added depth and textures. Actors moved scene specific set pieces onto the thrust stage as needed.

Given the size of the arch and nature of the lighting, the projections were designed without harsh or deep blacks or necessary line work so as to compliment the color and detail diffusion that occurs.

The example is sped up to showcase it in its entirety. In te performance this projection would have lasted approx. 7 minutes. The jerky, hard animations are an aspect of the compression.

Learning Games Network & WCER

2014

Part of a week-long immersive educational gaming experience, WCER & their Learning Games Network used their microbiology educational game, VIRULENT, as the basis for a role-play and game design program for middle school students. Students worked in groups to prevent the outbreak of a global viral pandemic,

On the multiple screens in the space, this example sequence would have run on a loop, unless interrupted by “Emergency Broadcasts” from the WHO - filmed live action sequences that detailed the scenario of the gaming experience for the day, The monitors were then used to display specific instructions, groups, and time.
